Water Resources

Water resources are coming under increasing pressure throughout the UK with increased demand from residential development and changes in rainfall patterns brought about by climate change. In addition approximately half of the groundwater used for public supply is estimated to be suffering from water quality issues.

Background

The increasing demand upon water resources occurs against a backdrop of changes in legislation and implementation of new policies including the introduction of River Basin Districts, defining groundwater and surface water bodies and their quantitative and quality status. These changes have been brought about to integrate groundwater and surface water resource assessments together with considering more thoroughly any impacts on ecology.

As a consequence this will change the way water resources are assessed, increase pressure on water abstractors and users with the tightening up of effluent discharge consents, time limiting of abstraction licences etc. Hafren Water is well-placed to assist water companies and industrial clients with these changing demands due to our track record of working with both industry and the Environment Agency. We are also able to provide cost-effective, pragmatic solutions to groundwater and surface water issues through to advice and support on regulatory matters.
